Intense BMX Race Report ABA Gator
Nationals
Oldsmar,
Florida March 19-21
Round 3 of the
2010 ABA Pro Series was held over the weekend of February 19-21 in
Oldsmar, Florida. Oldsmar, just outside of Tampa has been on the ABA
national tour for some time and it’s always a race that does not
disappoint. The track was recently redesigned to the delight of the
riders in attendance. This event was filmed for TV, to be aired on
the ABA Show on the VS network, and local News stations. For the
Intense BMX Factory team, Danny Caluag was the lone Pro rider to
attend. David Herman and Arielle Martin are both sidelined with
injuries and needed to pass up on the trip to the East Coast. David
is recovering from a small stress fracture on his hip and Arielle is
still mending from her crash at the last stop on the ABA Pro Tour;
both riders will be back on track next month to join Danny.
Intense/Phantom/Ontrac sponsored Pro Rider Nic Long was also in
attendance, looking to continue to move forward in the AA Pro Class
after his successful rookie Pro season.
Sporting the
new Pro Team jersey Danny set out to race both AA Pro and Pro
Cruiser this weekend. This was the biggest gathering of AA Pro/Elite
Men in quite some time; with over 45 riders on Saturday this would
be one of the toughest Pro main events to make. Danny rode stellar
on Saturday with 3 great moto finishes of 2nd or better.
In the quarterfinal, as can happen in the Pro class, one small
mistake kept Danny from advancing. Danny would have to settle for a
3rd in the Pro Cruiser final for the day’s overall
result. On Sunday Danny came back determined to make the stacked Pro
Main event. He once again made it through the motos with great
results and backed it up in the
quarterfinal and semi finals to make
the super stacked AA Pro Main event. Danny would wind up 6th
for the day, but it was huge to be in the final.
Nic Long also
had a great day on the track riding strong all day, battling his way
into the ultra competitive final and finishing just off the top spot
on the podium in the AA Pro final, placing 2nd.
The Intense
BMX Pro Team is proudly sponsored by THE Products, Fly, SINZ Racing,
Shimano, Intense Tyre Systems, Skull Candy, OGIO, Thomson, and Group
D Designs.

TV For TB
The San Diego NBC-TV affiliate, WNSD had a BMX guest, Crupi BMX's,
Tyler Brown on their San Diego Today early morning show Thursday, to
talk about BMX and the Olympics.
T.B. was representin' BMX racing, Tyler Brown Enterprises and the ABA
track at the Arco Olympic Training Center/Future BMX.
From the NBL Board Of Directors: The 2010 NBL Competition Congress was a great success. A
majority of our tracks were represented and took advantage of the
opportunity to learn various components to help run a successful local
program. The enthusiasm for the future of NBL BMX was incredible. The
unity felt during the weekend was unmatched in previous Congresses.
We also saw the largest slate of candidates, all of which were
exceptional choices, run for five board positions. What was clear is the
voting membership continued to deliver the message that they want the
NBL to be the premier BMX sanctioning body in the world. The fact that
our organization is a member-led organization that utilizes a truly
democratic process to choose its leadership sets it apart from any other
sanctioning body.
What was most gratifying was the recognition that the NBL has
the leader capable of leading our organization into the future. The
membership embraced the vision that Gary Aragon laid out during his
address to the congress. Everyone in the room was excited about the
direction Gary is leading the organization.
With that said, I am pleased to announce that the Board of
Directors of the National Bicycle League, that convened its first
meeting on Sunday, February 21, voted unanimously to extend Gary
Aragon’s contract by five years. We believe Gary has the vision, the
experience and the enthusiasm we need to lead our organization into the
future. We look forward to the future under Gary’s leadership.
Sincerely, James Bagwell, Chairman - Board of Directors - National Bicycle League
Morphine Industries Hits Oldsmar BMX for ABA Gator Nationals
(Richie Dey Photo Courtesy of Jerry Landrum/BMXmania.com)
The
long awaited ABA Gator Nationals hit with a bang this weekend and
the Morphine crew was there to live it up.
The
factory trailer and most of the team rolled into town Thursday night
to stake our claim to some terra and get some track time before the
masses rolled into town the following day. Props go to Jonny and
the crew at Oldsmar for setting up the track and putting together
the makings for great weekend of racing.
The
team hit practice on Friday to work out the road kinks and get a
taste of what the track had to offer and then it was out on the town
for a little R & R. Things get a little fuzzy at that point but I
think I remember Kevin Tomko showing me pictures of his glory days,
Damian sleeping in the backseat of the car and Barry’s hair
straighter in the hotel room.
Then
it was on to Saturday and we are ready to roll:
VET
PRO – Tim Dinger came
out swinging taking a few top spots in the motos but getting
squeezed in the semi ended his day on Saturday. Sunday, he came
back with top spots in the motos again but getting squeezed was not
on the menu today - charging to a third place podium finish in the
Main.
AA
PRO - Gavin Lubbe gave
the pink, black and white a rest for the weekend and rode for the
homeland in the South Africa colors. And ride he did with a great
performance on Saturday charging through the motos, quarters and
semi to take a spot short of the podium in fourth. On Sunday there
was the making of a repeat performance, however, a pedal slip
changed those plans and keep him out of the main.
A
PRO – Jason LaRev rode
hard in the stack A PRO class both days narrowly missing the
transfer spots. But….ooh the ladies.
36-40X - Doran Bradshaw
feeling a little under the weather on Saturday morning, bucked up
and rode anyway to the jeers of his team. Not having the normal
Bradshaw style brought him up short of the main. Coming back on
Sunday with a good night rest to continue his assault, Doran took a
5th in the main (still not Bradshaw style).
15X
– Damian Cherepko tore
up the field and turned heads with his dominating performance.
Racing Class on Saturday and Sunday, Damian took a 2nd
and 8th due to a crash in the second turn. In Junior
Dev, Damian pounded the track taking the pro sets and putting bike
lengths between him and the field. He took a 3rd on
Saturday and topped the podium on Sunday with a 1st.
13X
- Noah Reeves rode
in one of the biggest and stacked classes of the weekend with 25
riders.Saturday proved to be a banner day as he sailed
through the motos and semi. Getting pinched out in lane 1 in the
main, proved to be a tough place to make up ground and he settled
for a 7th. Sunday was another day of the same with a
cruiser through motos and semis and taking a 6th in the
main.
11X
– Richie Dey
continue to show off his aerial moves on the track, riding in a
stack 15 man class. On Saturday Richie, took an unfamiliar 7th
place due to a miscalculation on the track. Sunday, Richie came
back to make up for Saturday putting a smack down on the class and
finishing with a 3rd in the main.
We
had a great time as usual in Oldsmar. Johnny your the best Bro –
great race.
Be
sure to check us out at the next race. Okeeheelee BMX for the
Florida State Race on February 27-28 and then Desoto Baby for the
USAC BMX Championships and the ABA Super Nationals. See you there.
MCS Factory Team Update... ABA National - Oldsmar, FL
This past weekend we headed to Oldsmar,
Florida for the ABA Gator Nationals. We were all pretty excited to be
hitting up this race. Finally, we were able to go, it has been a couple
years since we have been able to attend due to scheduling conflicts.
Pulling in on Thursday, the track was a buzz with excitement. There were
people everywhere! There was a Supercamp going on, trailers being placed
into their spots and even a few Elite Men wondering about. This was
going to be a good race!
Saturday morning the weather seemed like it might not want to cooperate,
but that soon changed as the sun came out and heated things up. It
couldn’t have been a more beautiful day. The rider count was also
looking pretty good with almost 140 motos (Sunday would see about the
same count).
We had a full squad in attendance minus Cory Watts who is out for a bit
with an injury to his back. Andres Jimenez was looking really good in
Elite Men, sadly he would go out in the semi both days, but with the
talent pool as deep as it is, that’s not such a bad thing. He is coming
around, give him a couple more races and he will be right in there.
Amanda Geving was running strong all weekend. She had been battling a
cold for over a week and wasn’t feeling much like racing, but she
soldiered through it and took advantage of some first turn mayhem to
pull off the win on Saturday. Sunday, she was able to back it up with a
strong ride to take the deuce. She did great this weekend!
The backbone of the MCS Factory Team Raul
Gomez showed that he is going to be a force to reckon with in two
sanctions. Raul and Jeremy Thompson had some great races all weekend
long, with Raul taking home wins on both 20” and cruiser both days.
Petey Peters was the “Old Man” in the 19-27 Expert this weekend, but he
pulled it together enough to make the mains both days. Petey would score
a 3rd and an 8th for the weekend. Bryan Kipp was back after a long
absence with a broken wrist. Kipper is just starting to get back to the
speed he was before he got hurt. He scored a fifth on Saturday and
bettered it with a third on Sunday. Tucker Rice was holding his own in
Oldsmar. Tuck would get two seconds on 20” and a third and a second on
cruiser.
Team Sheet wise, we did really good! We won on Saturday with a 197, then
backed it up with a 186 (I think) on Sunday which was good enough for
second place. The race was race pretty smooth, the track was good and
fast and the team represented great. Overall, it was a really good
weekend. I can’t wait for next year!

BMX Race Report
ABA Gator Nationals ...
Oldsmar, Florida ... March 20-21
The
3rd round of the 2010 ABA Pro Series
was held this past weekend in Oldsmar, Florida. The Oldsmar track is located
just outside of Tampa and was recently fully redesigned and outfitted with a new
Pro Section. Since stop 3 was a UCI international
points event and just a month before the 1st of the
2010 UCI Supercross race series, it was time
for Pro riders from all over the world to begin their 2010 International
competition, all meeting up at the Oldsmar track. This was a recipe for
one of the biggest gatherings of AA Pro/Elite Men in quite some time, with over
45 riders on Saturday.
Randy
Stumpfhauser, the 2009 ABA #1 Pro has already
kicked off the 2010 season with some stellar main event scores, as well as a
win. Randy thrives at the fully stacked races, and this was no exception. On
Saturday, Stumpdawg easily made his way into the main event. Randy rode strong
as usually and was battling Cristian Becerine for the win, going into the 2nd
turn. Randy went for a move that quickly disappeared and lost just a bit of his
speed, letting 3rd place rider Maris Strombergs get a slight
advantage and make not only the pass on Randy, but on Cristian as well. Randy
would finish up 3rd for the day. On day 2, Stumpy was once again in
the main event and again, rode consistent finishing up 3rd. Randy’s
sponsors include GHP, SINZ, Tangent, THE Products, Troy Lee Designs, Tioga, and
BMXpros.com
Danny Caluag
rode stellar on Saturday with 3 great moto finishes of 2nd or better.
In the ¼ final, as it is in the Pro class, one small mistake kept him from
advancing. Danny would have to settle for a 3rd in the Pro Cruiser
final for the days overall result. On Sunday, Danny came back determined to make
the stacked Pro Main event. He once again made it through the motos with great
results and backed it up in the quarterfinal and semi finals to make the super
stacked AA Pro Main event. Danny would wind up 6th for the day, but
it was huge to be in the final.

Systems, Skull Candy, OGIO, Thomson, GO211.com, S & M, and Group D Designs, and

Cristian Becerine is hands down
one of the fastest riders in BMX and in Oldsmar, he once again proved that. On
Saturday, Cristian was a standout in the qualifying rounds and going into the
main event, was one of the favorites to win the UCI/ABA Elite Main event.
Cristian had a blistering holeshot and was out front for the entire lap. Randy
Stumpfhauser battled with Cristian the entire lap and when Cristian felt the
pressure from Randy subside just feet before the finish line, he slowed down
just a tad, but unfortunately it was jut a moment too soon, as his teammate
Maris would pass him just at the line, giving Cristian 2nd for the
day. On Day 2, Cristian was once again in the final, but in his all out start
effort, he taped the gate and blew his start. Cristian wound up 7th
for the day. Cristian’s sponsors include Free Agent, SINZ, THE Products, Kenda,
Thomson, UFO, Tioga, S & M, and BMXpros.com

EDITION REDLINE CUP
FRAMES
REDLINE NEWS
RELEASE
There is now one more
reason to attend a Redline Cup race in 2010
... other than participating in America's premiere BMX
series or earning a Redline Cup No.1 plate in September.
When you go to a RL Cup event, you'll have the chance to win
one of these 70-of-a-kind Limited Edition frames.
While
it is up to each track operator's discretion on how
they will be used, the
custom black & goldFlight
frames will likely be given
away as a fundraiser during
the RL Cup race - with proceeds being used to help fund
improvements for each BMX track.
These
Redline Cup Flight frames will surely become a collectors
item; and come in two sizes -- Expert XL and Pro
Cruiser. While the color was partly inspired by the original
"Gold Cup"name from
the 80's, they also pay tribute to the classic 1966
Hertz Mustang fastback. If you've got
306hp in your legs, then this frame and you will be a
perfect match.
Like
all Flight frames, these beauties are
made with Redline's exclusive R-6 Alloy tubing - which has
33% stronger tensil strength than standard 6061 alloy. This
enables Redline to run a thinner gauge of tubing - thus,
making it up to 20% lighter than most alloy BMX race frames.
Besides the custom paint job, the 2010 Redline Cup logo is
emblazoned and clear-coated on each side of the top tube.

Set to Revolutionize Extreme Sports Training Methods Personal measurement
device records data on your sports performance NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 29, 2010 – The exhilaration of completing a
kickflip from a 9-foot drop or the agony of a failed toothpick grind can now be
recorded, relived and shared, using a revolutionary new training device.
Experimental Design & Analysis Solutions, Inc. (EDAS) has created the perfect
training partner with Ripxx®, a “Personal Measurement Device.” Ripxx accurately
records detailed movements while you’re skateboarding, BMX riding or any other
activity that has you on the go.
The Ripxx uses a GPS tracking chip, three accelerometers and three gyroscopes to
follow virtually every move you make. Not only does it record your location, it
also logs orientation, speed, height in air, vertical drop, rolls, spins, turns
and just about anything else you do.
The device’s attributes make it the perfect training partner or proof to your
friends that you landed the inward heel flip.
“Whether on a skateboard or motorcycle, Ripxx gives athletes tangible proof on
how his or her session went,” said Dr. Kurt Nichol, president and CEO of EDAS,
the creator of Ripxx. “It will give athletes and coaches a variety of
measurements with outstanding accuracy on what went wrong and what went right,
thus reinforcing positive habits.”
Extreme athletes can simply strap the device on using the Ripxx holster or
attach it to their bike and start recording. Once finished, connect the Ripxx
to your computer to download data for storage and review other runs. Thanks to
a completely customable and user-friendly interface, it is easy to analyze every
twist and turn. You can even open multiple files and compare past data traces.
The device is perfect for any environment or terrain. It is built with a
weather- and shock-resistant case and features an OLED display that gives you
instant access to select data on your current outing, like airtime of a jump or
speed.
>From the vert ramp to an urban setting, Ripxx will take extreme athletes
performance to the next level. You can learn more about how Ripxx works and
order a device at www.ripxx.com .
Experimental Design & Analysis Solutions, Inc. – the creator of Ripxx -

Where's New
Zealand's Sarah Walker been?
Sarah
Walker, Elite Women's BMXer from New Zealand ended up a DOUBLE WORLD
CHAMPION at the 2009 UCI BMX World
Championships in Adelaide, Australia, and then due to bad
injury to her hand at the South Africa round of
the UCI SX World Cup missed the end of the UCI BMX Supercross
season, in which she had a real chance to take home the overall season
title.
Overall a big year, but obviously had to be a little
disappointing ending for Sarah.
Sarah's been rehabbing her hand and according to
Sarah, my "hand is 99% which is cool, shouldn't be much longer before
it's 110% again"!
Well, Sarah's hand must be feeling a little better,
because this past weekend, the UCI Oceania
Ranking Rounds 4&5 took place and it was Sarah's first time
back on the track.
99% was good enough for a BIG double for Sarah as she
took First Place in Elite Women's racing on the weekend with good world
class racers from Australia in the mix.
Sarah also had a pretty good time the week before as
she was nominated as a finalist at the New
Zealand Sports Awards, which was an amazing achievement for
her.
Sarah said, "I was one of four finalists for
Sportswoman of the Year for the whole of NZ in every sport which was a
huge honor," which really is quite an honor.
She didn't get the award but the winner was an Olympic
Gold Medalist for Shot Put and multi Track & Field World Champion over
many years and probably pretty much unbeatable.
However,
she did pick up some pretty good media exposure as in the nations
biggest newspaper they said that she "Stole the show for
the country's most glamorous sporting woman in
elegant regal red" so that was a cool bonus for our Double
BMX World Champ!
Sarah's going to be sitting out the upcoming
Madrid BMX SX race to make sure her hand is "110%" and
ready for a big season. The first international race back for Sarah will
be UCI SX Copenhagen, and then don't
be surprised if you see The Champ zip over to the U.S. for her first
ever appearance at some U.S. national racing.
Then it's back on the International BMX Circuit defending her double
world titles at the UCI Worlds in
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and then making a run at the
year end UCI BMX Supercross title.
Look out world, Sarah Walker is on her
way back!

bikes in 2010.
The podium of the mountain bike 4X World
Championships is waiting for Roger and BMC. The qualification for
the BMX Olympics in 2012 is also on Roger’s agenda.
Mike Hürlimann, BMC Chief Executive Officer, explains the strategic
decision: "BMC always had their roots in the mountain bike sport.
It’s just not on everybody’s mind anymore, due to the big success of
BMC road bikes during the last years. We are in the strong opinion
that we will be able to increase the brand awareness within the
important mountain bike segment again by forming a strong
partnership with Roger."
"Our Fourstroke, Trailfox, Speedfox and Supertrail models have
already been receiving great test results in the worldwide media,
but the input from Roger, who is a well experienced racer and
freerider, will be very useful for us to keep on progressing in R&D.
We are really looking forward to an exciting and valuable
partnership!”
Roger can’t wait to be back in
business: “I have been training a lot after breaking my upper arm in
August last year and I am back at 100% of my former riding
performance. The new partnership with BMC is an additional and big
plus of motivation during these grey winter days. The development of
the ultimate 4X weapon is in full progress and I can’t wait for the
season to begin!”
Roger can count on the support of
his new bike sponsor BMC, but also on his long-term partners Oakley,
iXS, SR Suntour, DT Swiss, Onza, Crankbrothers, as well as his brand
new components sponsor Syncros. - Photo

J&R Bicycles/Intense Team Report for ABA
SoCal Nationals - Chula Vista, CA
After pulling into Chula Vista on Friday night to
set up the team tent with the rain pouring down, I was surprised to see
that the ABA was running the pre-race mains. I had a flashback of ABA’s
SoCal National mud fest at Cutting Edge in February of 2001! I thought
the track would be destroyed for the remainder of the weekend. However,
the ABA and volunteers did a great job getting the track ready for
Saturday’s practice.
After a rain event went through during Saturday’s
practice, the ABA instituted a one moto transfer system for Saturday’s
National. This worked out good to keep things on schedule and avoid the
next rain event that came in later that night (see picture below). For
Sunday’s racing, a few soft spots were left over from Saturday’s
drenching, but the track was still in decent shape for racing! Thank you
ABA and volunteers.
Covering the track after
Saturday’s Mains
As for the J&R
Bicycles/Intense team was concerned, we were looking to
build upon our season opener in Reno where the team took two wins. Even
with the bad weather and a few kids not feeling well, the team pulled in
two more victories for the weekend. The team aboard its new lighter 2010
Podium frames, Sinz carbon forks, Alienation hoops with the Intense
micro knobby tires were looking good all weekend with a total of 13
wins!
Nick “Little Diva” Tuttle,
soon to be a Vet Diva, led the team with a double in the 28-35x and
26-30 cruiser classes. Ryan Pettigrew had three wins for the
weekend, and just missing a win in Sunday’s 11x main. Lauren Whisler,
after a couple of 2nd place finishes on Saturday, came back
strong on Sunday with wins in 14 girls and the combined 14-16/17-20
girl’s cruiser class. Zack “the Scorpion” Vankammen took two
4ths in 15x and a 1st and 2nd place in 15
cruiser. The gutsy performance of the weekend belongs to K.J. Romero. With
a cold/bronchitis that just got worse as the weekend went by, managed to
pull in a 1st and 2nd place in 17-20 cruiser and 1st
and 2nd in 17-18x. “Little Man” Levi Pope, had two 4th
place finishes in 10 cruiser, and a 7th and 3rd
place in 10x. Robert Raymonde, still healing from some banged up
ribs from a mountain bike race, finishes with a 5th and 6th
place in 41-45 cruiser, and 7th and 8th place in
41x. Jason Morris brings home some money with a 4th
and 7th place in A Pro.
I want to welcome our newest team member, Cody
Shelton, 16x. Last year in Chula Vista Cody broke both of his
wrists, requiring extensive surgery. The good news is that the wrists
are feeling good, and has been training to get back to racing next
month.
I want to send a special thanks to Kirk and Bert
Morrison at J & R Bicycles
(www.jrbicycles.com)for sponsoring the team along Pete Dylewski and Toby Henderson at
Intense, Sinz, and T.H.E.(www.vsiproducts.com),
Greg Skibel at Troy Lee Designs (www.troyleedesigns.com),
Jerry & Zach at Alienation
(www.alienationbmx.com),

and present contributions to significantly help our program over the

Coach G Joins Rennen G-Cog!
Rennen Design Group is pleased to announce that highly decorated
BMX pro and coach, Greg Romero (Coach G) will join the company to
specifically head up Sales and Marketing of G-Cog "The world's first
true BMX powermeter". Greg brings to the table over 28 years of BMX
experience including an impressive pro racing and coaching resume.
Most notable was the coaching he did for USA Olympic Medalists Mike
Day and Jill Kintner. "Coach G" was personally hired by Jill Kintner
and Mike Day (through Red Bull North America) to manage their
performance programs and goals of qualifying to the Olympic games
and ultimately going to Beijing and earning medals.
George: "Coach G has a way to think laterally and his vast
experience in racing and coaching at the highest level is
unparalleled. We're looking forward to plugging Greg into areas of
the company where he can enhance the brand, the product, and
the awareness of the G-Cog power meter. Specifically one of Greg's
tasks will be creating an educational video series showing users not
only how to install/use the device but also how it enhances and can
quantify their training."
Greg: "I am looking forward to being a part of such an innovative
company and am very excited to help bring to light the usefulness of
the G-Cog powermeter. As you may know, many top countries and BMX
athletes are using powermeters to quantify and test their training
and equipment. In the road and MTB industry, powermeters are the
standard over heart rate monitoring systems and traditional
speedometers. Having personal experience using other powermeter
systems such as the SRM and Powertap, I believe that the G-Cog and
the data that it renders is second to none. Rennen/G-Cog wants to
grow and I am looking forward to not only being a part of the growth
but to enhance key areas to make sure the growth plan is executed"
Rennen Design Group will have a better west coast presence this
year and individuals can find Greg at our booth at select races. He
can also be reached directly at his email Greg@G-Cog.com
We at Rennen Design Group are excited about the addition of Coach
G and we look forward to working with him to bring innovation and
technology to BMX racing.
G-Cog is a revolutionary BMX training tool that enables you to
measure Power, Torque, Speed, Acceleration, Distance, Rider Wobble
and Reaction Time (Integrated speaker plays ABA, NBL/UCI cadence).
G-Cog will help you validate your training and give you confidence
that you've put the work in. Now it's time to let your results
speak for themselves.

NEW Eliminator
Racing Sponsors. . .
2010 Brings 2 new sponsors to the Eliminator Racing Program.
The first addition was a hometown bicycle manufacturer. The 2010
BMX Racing Team Riders of Eliminator will be racing the popular
Supercross Envy & Evo-is bicycles all year. With the worldwide
headquarters of Supercross just a rhythm section away from the
Apple Valley, CA based Eliminator Racing it made perfect sense
to have the west coast based international competing team on the
Supercross Envy frame. Supercross has been making bicycles and
components for over 20 years. Eliminator Racing is proud to have
a title bike sponsor on board for 2010
The next sponsor addition is a publicly
traded NYSE company. IDentity Theft Shield is the affordable
solution to combat a growing crime that knows no boundaries.
More and more people from every walk of life are victimized each
day. The results can be an overwhelming loss of time and money.
Eliminator Racing is excited to partner with them this year and
bring their services to light for everyone at the BMX Races. For
more info on their services check out the ID
Theft Shield Website.

OH (February 9, 2010) — The
National Bicycle League announced their new lapel pin program in
conjunction with T-B Trophies & Awards today. The program will make
available a unique collectible pin designed specifically for each
National this season. The pin design for each National will be made open
to the public. If you would like to submit a design for any National

jessmoore@nbl.org no later than eight (8) weeks prior to the race.
The NBL and T-B will select the best design from which to develop an

incorporated into the event t-shirt.
The pins for the Southern Charm National

and other clothing items. T-B Trophies President Tory Borgmann says, “We
are very excited to launch the lapel pin program for the 2010 season. We
think the pins will make for a fun collectible for NBL members and serve
as a unique memento for every rider. We encourage all members to submit
artwork for the upcoming pin designs so this program really becomes a
product not just for the riders, but by them as well.”
NBL CEO Gary Aragon adds, “As
always, T-B Trophies has done an excellent job producing these pins. I'm
glad that our riders and their families can get involved and share their
ideas and concepts on these pins to commemorate our Nationals, and I

The lightest
sprockets in BMX without sacrificing one ounce of strength.
They are round, straight and the teeth are fitted to 10 speed chain.
Our tooth configurations have been engineered to be precisely pre
worn for race ready use and to minimize the need to readjust the bike in
the field.
The advanced tooth design allows the sprocket to grasp the chain
earlier and release it earlier giving that extra advantage down the
first straight.
Our spoke, cutaway design keeps the sprocket light and retain the
natural strength of our material.
Our sprockets are made from our domestic, composite material to
ensure that our product is strong and of quality.

Alienation
BSX
A Big Hit!
The
Alienation BSX, short for Bicycle
Supercross or some might suggest Backyard Supercross, is a One on One
charity event run at the bmxultra.com
compound at Pheasant Creek, nestled in the Kinglake ranges 60kms
North East of Melbourne, Australia’s CBD. The
Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation
are the primary beneficiary of the event, however we also help raise
money for the Kinglake West CFA (Country Fire
Authority).
With the event held in January,
the peak of the Aussie summer, you would expect great weather, but BSX
history has proved you need to be prepared for anything. We thought we
had seen it all. When there's rain, normally it would clear mid morning
to a beautiful sunny day, everything would dry up the skies would turn
blue and everything would be perfect. Normally.
The BSX has become an institution. An event by riders
for riders, and the spectators get a whole lot out of it too, not only
with the action packed racing on the track but with all the fundraising
activities as well.
The event has attracted riders from Canada, New
Zealand and all over Australia, including the likes of Sarah Walker,
Tanya Bailey, Lauren Reynolds, Ziggy Callan. Sam Willoughby, Luke
Madill, Jamie Gray, Michael Robinson, Michael Fenwick, Khalen Young,
Glenn Codega, Alex Cameron, 80’s legend Jamie Hales and a whole lot of
others. Even professional wrestler Joey Russell Junior came along to
race this year.
There have been just 3 winners in the hotly contested
Open Men's class over the past four years. Luke Madill took the
wins in 2006 and 2007, Josh Callan won in 2008 and Scott Lacey
in 2009. All three past champions returned for BSX2010, Luke Madill
making a special trip to squeeze BSX in only a couple of days after
becoming the Australian 4X champion, yet again.
There were also a bunch of talented young riders who
were expected to keep the past champions honest included Kyle Horton,
Tom Siinmaa, Levi Collins, Jonathan Hoare, Connor Hunter, Luke Pretlove
and Ryan Henderson, just to name a few. An in form Bodi Turner was a
dark horse for the event. But each of them would have to make it all the
way through eliminations in a record breaking field of 39 riders. Ziggy
Callan was the only woman to put on her flat pedals for the day, she
loves BSX and decided to take on the guys since there was no class for
her..........

February 1st.
The 34 year old, French athlete, will be responsible
for the WCC’s high level BMX trainees as well as young athletes

talented athletes. The main goal of the course will be the UCI BMX

Strong Season Opening for Formula Europe
Three

Lucie Meerholz dominated the Girls 14 Category: she won both days
without tolerating anyone in front of her.
In the Elite Men Edzus Treimanis and Kevin Sprengers looked like the
men to beat. They were winning motos and won their semis on both Satuday
and Sunday.
The Saturday Main a cracking sound just before the gate dropped
messed up the 2 favorites start: Edzus finished in 5th and Kevin had to
settle for 7th.
On
Sunday’s Main, Kevin took the holeshot but in the first turn got run
into and crashed. Edzus who was just behind him got hold up and was held
back. Edzus finished in 6th, Kevin in 8th.
A few days later Kevin Sprengers left for 3 week training period in
the south of France. On his way there he made a stop in Caen for the
Open French Indoor.
Satuday Kevin crashed while leading in the 1/32 final, but Sunday he
took revenge and made the podium in the main with a nice 3rd spot.

Action Sport Coaching's,
Justin Travis Offers Free Clinics
Many of you know that I no longer work in
the NBL Office, but I have been up to some great things for BMX.
The first is I formed a non-profit
organization call Action Sport Coaching with the intent to support BMX,
riders, and tracks through coaching, mentoring and scholarship programs.
You can check out our website athttp://www.actionsportcoaching.comto
what we are all about.
Our first order of business is the often
over looked support of our new and younger riders, if we can teach them,
coach them and provide mentorship for them they will stay hooked on BMX
for much longer, retention is the name of the game!
In my years of coaching clinics on the
road for Stile Industries and most recently the NBL Future Stars series
I have watched kids grow up and continue to attend clinics and race. I
want to be able to extend the ability to more new and young racers all
over the country, to do this we want to provide FREE clinics at local
tracks around the country.
The BMX community has pulled together
before and we can pull together now!
Thank you Justin Travis Action Sport Coaching
JASON CARNE$
ENDS victory drought!
BMX Mania "We're LATE Apology!
- I'd like to send a little "Sorry" out to "Racin' Jason
Carnes" and the Redline Team,
but this story got lost in the In Box Chaos at the
BMX Mania World HQ,
but it's such cool stuff, I FOR SURE wanted to get it posted
to BMX Mania for fans of Mr. Car Nez! Congrats to Jason on
his win at the NBL Christmas
Classic and making the main event at the
ABA Silver Dollar National
in Reno, Nevada. Good Job! - Jerry Landrum/BMXmania.com
The
NBL Christmas Classic went down in L-ville, KY -
and Redline's 6-time No.1 Vet Pro champ Jason
Carne$ not only returned to the indoor arena he
loves, but he also made it his return to the top rung of
the Vet podium - breaking his two year drought, at the
very same race where he'd scored his last victory.
Here's Jason's story - which is posted in full on the
Redline
website:
"For those of us
in the BMX race world, every holiday brings a race and
Christmas is no exception. The NBL Christmas Classic
kicks off on
December 26th every year and is one of the great races
on the NBL
schedule. Historically it has been in Columbus, OH and
is usually a challenging, technical track. This year,
the race moved to Louisville, KY and had a whole
different flavor. The smaller Broadbent Arena provided
for a tight, busy track with lots of run-ins (mostly in
turns 1 and 3). The turn-out was great with over 200
motos and everyone was pumped to kick off the new 2010
NBL season!
For me,
the Christmas Classic ushered in a fresh start with
healed-up body parts and a drive to once again be
successful in the Vet Pro/Masters class. It's been
nearly two years since I have raced pain-free!
After a crushed kidney and broken ribs in Jan '08,
then ruining my left wrist and right shoulder in Jun
'08 (requiring six surgeries and countless hours of
rehab), it feels great to be back on the track
without grimacing in pain. It will take some time to
rebuild the confidence and become a serious
contender but I welcome the challenge!
With the
rest of the RL crew enjoying the holidays at home or
over racing in Australia
(enjoy the sun, Denzel), I was holding it
down in Kentucky with my Masters running-mate and
hometown hero Tommy Board. We had a small pit
set-up and were
glad to see the hype &
excitement over the 2010 Flight
bikes still going strong.
The
racing went great as Tommy and I went 5th and 4th
respectively in Saturdays main. Then Sunday, with
the help of an inside lane and some fist turn drama,
I managed to sneak by for the big win with Tommy
battling for a 4th.
It was
two years ago at the Christmas Classic since my last
win. I've been waiting all this time for the cards
to fall my way and finally it happened. I'll
be the first to admit that I was not the
fastest guy of
the weekend,
but as we all know...
anything can happen out there.
That's why you pin it hard when the gate
drops no matter how you feel! I've lost more than a
few races when I felt like I was riding great, and
I've won a ton when I was dragging a bit. However it
comes, I'LL TAKE IT!"

All of Fly Racing's products are

UK British Number 1 Team are
delighted to be hooking up with a company like Fly. Co-Team Manager

They put a lot into our great sport and I'm sure the riders will be
looking really smart with their new Fly pants, goggles and accessories."
On the race track 6 riders from the team made the trip to
Kortjvik, Belgium for the European Indoor

Roger
Rinderknecht on BMC bikes for 2010
February 9th, Grenchen (Switzerland): Swiss 4X and
BMX racer Roger Rinderknecht hits the UCI World Cup circus on BMC
bikes in 2010.

Theft Shield Website.

worn for race ready use and to minimize the need to readjust the bike in
Our product is manufactured by riders for riders in the attempt to
make the best products.

Alienation
BSX
A Big Hit!
The
Alienation BSX, short for Bicycle

AlienationBMX
continues support into 2010 with Jeff Upshaw.
Alienation BMX and
Jeff Upshaw will continue their relationship into the 2010 racing
year.
Coming off a horrible crash that sidelined Jeff for the last
quarter of the racing season in 2009, not much has been seen or
heard of from Jeff.
“He’s been quietly
training and rehabilitating his body back to 100%. Come his first
race in March, I think Jeff will prove he has what it takes to be a
part of our team” Vice President, Zach Taylor.
Although signing
with Alienation is all familiar with Jeff’s sponsorship program,
there are some positive changes that have taken affect.
"I’ll be
representing Bill Ryan and the good guys over at
Supercross BMX by
riding their all new Envy frame. The thing is light and amazingly
fast."
"Also, Ray Hudson and
Fly racing have stepped up big time to make me look pretty damn
fresh with Fly Racing gear" says Jeff.

Strong Season Opening for Formula Europe
Three
of the European Formula Factory Team riders were competing in the
International Open Indoor in Kortrijk, Belgium. This 2 day BMX event was
organised during the Velofolies Bicycle Fair.
